AUDITIONS

Audition Information:

Participation in the Temecula Valley Symphony and Youth Symphony programs are by audition only.

For the 2022-2023 season, Temecula Valley Symphony will hold individual auditions with a principal musician or a member of the orchestra committee during the first two weeks of August. Auditions will be scheduled on an individual basis for this week, although new musicians will be accepted throughout the concert season based on open positions and instrumentation requirements.

TVS presents an average of six concert programs per season and performs occasional outside engagements. Rehearsals are scheduled in Temecula or Murrieta-based venues, on Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:30 pm. There are two to five consecutive weeks of rehearsals prior to each concert. The orchestra’s season begins in mid-August and performs through the end of May.

In order to maintain and improve the musical quality of the TVS it is the policy of the Board of Directors that all new musicians must audition unless recommended by the Executive Director, Conductor, or the Orchestra Committee. This applies to those who are auditioning for specific open positions and to those who wish to be placed on the sub list.

The upcoming auditions are for volunteer positions only. New musicians will be accepted on probationary terms for the first two concerts, and are expected to attend all rehearsals and concerts scheduled for the season. All new musicians must have their music well learned before rehearsals.

At any time during the season, if you are interested in joining the orchestra, and if there is an opening, you may request a brief audition to become part of the orchestra on an interim basis.

Auditions are approximately 10-15 minutes, and will be scheduled either in person, or live online.

Audition repertoire will consist of two contrasting pieces of the applicant’s choice. Applicants should be able to demonstrate an appropriate skill level for your instrument.

  • One must be a standard excerpt from orchestral literature.
  • The second piece must be a standard solo for the applicant’s instrument.

There will be a short informal discussion of the applicant’s experience, availability, and interest in playing with TVS.
