Board of Directors

& TVS Committees

Let Us Introduce You To Our Board

Our board is a hard working team of community and orchestra members who strive to bring you the best possible concert season each year!

Susan Miyamoto

President

Susan believes that music is a language that can convey emotions that cannot be expressed by words. Every person (beginning at birth) has music in them and her goal is to help each student set and achieve their goals in making music through the piano.

Susan graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance and has over 40 years of experience as a private piano teacher. Upon graduation, she was trained and worked in Los Angeles as a Yamaha music teacher for 7 years. She received Kindermusik and Musikgarten training and has been teaching early childhood music classes for 25 years. Her family moved to Temecula in 1989 and she has been dedicated to helping the arts grow in the community.

She enjoys collaborating with other musicians and has performed regularly in the community and as a collaborative pianist including performances at the Old Town Temecula Theater and Classics at the Merc.

Marie Cantrell, Treasurer

Maria Cantrell

Treasurer

Before retirement, Maria had made her career in bookkeeping and accounting throughout most of her life. With her Hungarian heritage and upbringing, she was always passionate about music, but she didn’t have the opportunity to learn to play the violin until late into adulthood. It quickly became an avocation and she joined the orchestra in 2014 in the 2nd violin section. She was elected to the Board in 2015 and as Treasurer the following fiscal year, when she immediately proceeded to convert our bookkeeping from outdated Excel spreadsheets to QuickBooks. Over the years she has dedicated countless hours to furthering our mission, even served as Acting Secretary for several months when no one else would accept that role. Maria has continued her position as Treasurer to the present day, and has agreed to serve for another year if reelected.

John Rogers

Director

John Rogers is a Principal with IE Surveying and Engineering, Inc. in Temecula. He started his career as the instrumentman on Parsons, Brinkerhoff, Quade & Douglas’s (now WSP Global) New York City survey crew. He later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering at Yale University after Naval service in Vietnam and then worked for larger firms in San Francisco and San Diego

Since 1981, he has worked in southern Riverside County, in both private and public positions, and on large and small projects, bringing a large knowledge base of engineering and survey-related projects within the valley.
He is regularly utilized as an expert witness for boundary or land use disputes by attorneys in the area. Mr. Rogers’ license allows him to practice civil engineering and land surveying within California. Additionally, Mr. Rogers aids in site design and planning for new land development projects.

He is a Registered Civil Engineer, California (RCE# 22428) and a Fellow and Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Shares John, “I have a remarkable lack of musical talent, perhaps surprising given my family. In the 1920’s and 30-‘s my grandfather was an official with Local 56 of the AFM in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was an orchestra leader, played trumpet and piano and was a skilled piano tuner and repairman. His sister was a moderately successful concert pianist in the Seattle area in the same era. My Dad was a high-level amateur pianist, both classical and pop, particularly ‘stride’. His talent carried him through University of Michigan, playing solo and organizing bands for fraternity parties.

My brother played trumpet in high school and college, and studied tuba and banjo in his later years. (He has ‘adopted’ tuba player Gabriel Sears). My nephew is a bona fide rock guitarist and song writer in New York. My sister-in-law is an Eastman-trained organist. My daughter sings, writes music and plays piano and guitar in Jacksonville, Florida. I struggled through adolescent piano lessons, with the only lasting result being that I can sort of read sheet music.”

John currently serves on the board of the San Bernadino Symphony and recently received “Volunteer of the Year” award from the Association of California Symphony Orchestras.
John wants to contribute to the growth and success of his home town orchestra. His areas of expertise/contribution are : Management assistance, fundraising, even and concert assistance. He plans to also encourage attendance and participation by friends, family, local and regional contacts.
